The price of %Bitcoin (CRYPTO: $BTC) is likely to reach $500,000 U.S. by 2028, according to a new forecast from British bank Standard Chartered (STAN).

The bullish forecast is based on increased investor access to the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization and diminishing volatility.

Analysts at Standard Chartered add that Bitcoin will also benefit from its growing role as a hedge against inflation and other economic issues.

Geoffrey Kendrick, the global head of digital asset research at the bank, says that Bitcoin is likely to become less volatile as U.S. exchange-traded funds (ETF) that track its price mature.

Access to Bitcoin is improving under the new U.S. federal government, and institutional inflows into spot ETFs are set to keep on growing, wrote Kendrick.

This is “enough to drive Bitcoin to $500,000 before Trump leaves office,” concludes the analyst in a note to clients.

Standard Chartered’s year-end price target for Bitcoin is currently $200,000 U.S, while its 2026 target has been set at $300,000 U.S.

Bitcoin is currently trading at $98,725 U.S., having gained 6% so far in 2025.
